UHURU KENYATTA secretly extends the contract of Gen. Karangi – still needs him to hold KDF together for his sake – RUTO not consulted

Sunday December 29, 2013 – President Uhuru Kenyatta has secretly extended the contract of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Chief of Staff, General Julius Karangi by one year.
This comes despite Karangi, who is now 62, having had his term extended by former President Mwai Kibaki last year after he attained the retirement age in the military.
Kibaki extended Karangi’s tenure to save President Uhuru Keenyatta the trouble of having to pick his successor immediately after his election in the last General Election, considering that his retirement was to coincide with the transition from Kibaki/ Raila’s Grand Coalition Government to Uhuru/ Ruto’s Jubilee Government.
However, Uhuru has extended Karangi’s contract to hold the army together as he buys time to settle properly in power as well as search for his replacement.
Ideally, if President Uhuru Kenyatta is to follow the tradition, the next KDF boss will be picked from the Vice Chief of KDF, Lt-Gen Samson Mwathethe, the Army Commander, Lt-Gen Joseph Kasaon and Lt Gen Jackson Waweru, who heads the National Defence College.
However, the move is likely to cause ripples within the Jubilee Government as sources indicate that Uhuru Kenyatta never consulted his Deputy, William Ruto, on the issue.

Recently, Ruto’s operatives have developed cold feet within Jubilee accusing Uhuru of duping Kalenjins in public appointments as well as not consulting William Ruto while making major decisions.
