The MERU community says they will join RAILA ODINGA if UHURU KENYATTA fails to honour his pledges – MITHIKA LINTURI
Monday December 30, 2013 – Barely a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto made 26 state appointments, now a section of Meru leaders have vowed to dump the Jubilee Coalition for Raila Odinga’s CORD, if Uhuru fails to honour his pledges to the Meru community.
Led by Igembe South MP, Mithika Linturi, who chairs the Meru Parliamentary Group, and his Maara counterpart, Kareke Mbiuki, the two leaders accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of failing to honour three appointments with local leaders.
They said they are unhappy with the President’s method of sharing state jobs and criticised the appointment of former Head of Public Service, Francis Muthaura, as the chairman of LAPSSET – Corridor Development Authority.
“We have made five attempts since June to meet him and he has been unavailable. His appointments are skewed in favour of one part of Meru while Tharakas and Nyambenes have been sidelined. We can’t tolerate this,” Linturi said.
Linturi said he will meet all 21 MPs from the larger Meru region to make a wise decision on whether to quit the Jubilee alliance or remain in it.
“We supported TNA and the President on account that his Government would address inequalities in our region. We want him to know that we are not blood relatives and for that matter our support is not permanent,” he said adding that if Uhuru fails the whole Meru community will join CORD Presidential loser, Raila Odinga.
