MANCHESTER UNITED talisman ROONEY faces race against time to feature in the crunch league clash against Tottenham at Old Trafford.
Sunday, December 29, 2013-Manchester United are hoping that striker Wayne Rooney will be fit when they host Tottenham Hotspur on New Year’s Day.
The England international missed out on United’s 1-0 Premier League win over Norwich City with a groin injury on Saturday.
However, the reigning Premier League champions are confident that the 28-year-old will be in contention to make an immediate return when Tottenham visits Old Trafford on Wednesday.
“Wayne Rooney didn’t travel to Norwich due to the recurrence of a groin strain. He should be available for #mufc vs @SpursOfficial on 1 Jan,” confirmed United via the club’s official Twitter account.
Wayne Rooney is United’s top scorer this season with 11 goals in all competitions.
United manager, David Moyes, will be desperate to have Rooney at his disposal against Tottenham as he is already without the services of Dutch striker Robin van Persie, who is expected to return next month from a thigh problem.
The Red Devils moved to sixth in the Premier League table with victory over Norwich City level in points with Everton although Roberto Martinez’s charges have a game in hand against Southampton.
