Man Utd boss, DAVID MOYES, reveals Sir ALEX FERGUSON’s hand in Manchester United’s bungled summer transfer activity.
Sunday, December 29, 2013 -David Moyes came under intense criticism following his failure to bring on board a number of new players in the summer transfer window.
United were linked to a host of top players including Cesc Fabregas, Thiago Alcantara and Leighton Baines but only managed to sign Marouane Fellaini from Everton in a £27.5m deal.
However, Moyes has admitted last summer’s transfer list was actually Sir Alex Ferguson’s.
Speaking to MUTV, Moyes said: “The transfer window was difficult because I wasn’t put into the job until July 1.
“I wasn’t in and around Carrington, I couldn’t be here and that was a little bit of a difficult time in the summer. Overall, though, I had an idea of what was required. We had 2 or 3 targets in mind.
“Sir Alex had told me what was needed. I was mainly working off Sir Alex’s blueprint from the coaching staff and scouting staff.
“There were 2 or 3 players that we just didn’t pull off at the last minute on a couple of occasions. I did feel that when you come in, you need to assess your squad and give everybody an opportunity.
“Hopefully, most players would say they have had some games, some would like more but we have tried to get everybody that chance.”
The Red Devils made a sluggish start to the season under Moyes but seem to have turned a corner after chalking up four premier league win s on the trot to move to sixth in the log.
