Our client, an insurance brokerage firm in Kenya seeks to recruit a reliable, aggressive and goal oriented Business Development Manager who shall be in charge of their Mombasa office.


Sales Cycle

  • Identify potential prospective clients
  • Collect and collate pertinent information about the prospective clients
  • Approach prospective clients through cold calls and referrals
  • Make first presentation on capabilities
  • Know and understand Clients’ needs
  • Review clients exposures to identify gaps
  • Approach at least 50% of the underwriter market for negotiations
  • Propose a solution to the client that meets their needs based on underwriter responses
  • Propose alternative solutions to the client outside of the traditional underwriter market
  • Telephone and email follow up to secure sale
  • Involvement of seniors and peers to review and provide support
  • Negotiate for the best price and benefits with the service providers/partners
  • Negotiate suitable remuneration terms for the company  (Commission, Fees etc)
  • Sell additional value propositions
  • Negotiate suitable payment terms
  • Prepare Risk Note and get sign off from underwriter and client
  • Collect membership database from the client if applicable (signed off)
  • Ensure agreement on the list of service providers(garages, valuers etc) and procedures to access cover or make a claim
  • Follow up for payment from the client
  • Ensure account manager is fully apprised of the scheme particulars
  • Prepare and attend the first member education with the account manager
  • Review and approve policy document and dispatch the same to client (save copy in file)
  • Notify the client of the renewal 3 months before expiry
  • Achieve organic growth with all renewals (indicate amount)
Product Knowledge
  • Know and understand product details of the available products in the market
  • Demonstrate understanding of  the limitations and extensions offered by the various underwriters on matters of concern eg terrorism
  • Intelligence / Groundwork before purchase of tender
  • Accuracy of technical proposal
  • Accuracy of Financial Proposal
  • Proposal had best price
  • Timely delivery
  • Copy of tender document submitted scanned and saved in file
  • RFP document saved in file
  • Tender Follow up
Cross Marketing
  • You must be able to originate business from and for  other divisions
Product Development
  • Develop new products and services to complement existing products
  • Constantly advise the team and clients on any new products
  • Constantly advise the team and clients on any new developments in the insurance industry that affects the cover (eg Rule on Double Cabins)
  • Ensure all proposals are sent to the client within 5 days of request
  • Dispatch of Documentation – within 14 days of cover inception
  • Invoice dispatch – within 14 days of inception
  • Policy document – within the 1st Month of cover
  • Response to general queries – 1 day
Soft Skills
  • Must have proper grooming
  • Ensure Professional Email etiquette
  • Telephone etiquette
  • Presentation Skills
  • You must actively pursues personal development – professional courses, additional skills
  • Any other task, requirement or role assigned by your supervisor in the day to day execution of your job
  • Attainment of budget as set by your supervisor
  • Bachelors in any business related field
  • 3-4 years in similar capacity in the insurance industry
  • Result oriented
  • Leadership skills
