GOOD NEWS for NTV/ KTN and CITIZEN TV as court orders UHURU/ RUTO’s Government to switch back to analogue signal
Saturday December 28, 2013 – The Court of Appeal has ordered the Government of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto, to switch back the analogue television broadcast signal that it had switched off for Nairobi and its environs pending an appeal filed by three top Media Houses.
In a ruling read by a three Judge bench led by Presiding Judge Kihara Kariuki, the court ordered the Communication Commission of Kenya (CCK) to stop the transition to digital broadcast for 45 days until February 6th, 2014, when the appeal will be heard.
This came as a big reprieve for millions of Kenyans who were left in the dark on Thursday night when the switch took place.
Speaking yesterday, Information and Communication Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiangi, said his Ministry will unreservedly comply with the court ruling halting the digital migration.
The court will also give reasons for temporary return of analogue broadcast on January 31, 2014.
