Vacancy:Product Engineer

General Motors East Africa (GMEA) is the largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles in the East African region.

Our manufacturing plant in Nairobi assembles a wide range of Isuzu trucks and buses and also distributes fully built Chevrolet passenger vehicles.

With more than fifteen Isuzu models, our plant’s output has enabled GMEA stamp its authority in the vehicle manufacturing, sales and service industry right across East and Central Africa.

 
Since 1977, GMEA has produced and sold over 70,000 units being a testimony to its strong heritage brands as well as excellent customer service.

Our growing sales in the new vehicle segment has propelled GMEA to market leadership in Kenya three years in a row since 2012, achieving a market share of 28.7% in 2014.

We are looking for highly engaged candidates with a track record of excellence to join team GM in the following positions to be filled in January, 2016.

Product Engineer, Tooling and Design 
Ref: ENG/HRBP/017

Reporting to the Product Planning, Engineering & Bodybuilding Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following functions:
  • Development and continuous review of Manufacturing Tooling processes and procedures in-line with GM Policy.
  • Project leader for Manufacturing Tooling development.
  • Design of bus & truck bodies and specialised equipment.
  • Generation and maintenance of facilities technical designs.
  • Development of vehicle metal critical parts and components from first principles.
  • Management of manufacturing, product and facilities designs documentation.
For appointment to this position, the successful candidate must have the following minimum requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Production or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Five years’ experience in a design environment.
  • Project management and computer design systems (AutoCAD) experience.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, KAIZEN, lean manufacturing and Sigma tools.
  • Technical savvy, innovative, process oriented, strong analytical skills and customer focus.
Product Engineer, Supplier Quality Development 
2 Positions
Ref: ENG/HRBP/019

Reporting to the Product Planning, Engineering & Bodybuilding Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following functions:
  • Facilitate the interaction between Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing & Supply chain departments and suppliers in terms of local content development and the applicable general procedures.
  • Ensure that local content components approval is obtained for components that are sourced from local suppliers, where deemed necessary.
  • Provide input into all new business sourcing decisions affecting suppliers.
  • Measure, report and correct supplier quality performance.
  • Develop and confirm supplier capability by means of applying acceptable tools.
  • Ensure corrective and preventive action reports, lodged with suppliers, are effectively addressed.
For appointment to this position, the successful candidate must have the following minimum requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Production /Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Five years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Project Management skills.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, KAIZEN, lean manufacturing, Sigma tools & computer design systems (AutoCAD & Inventor).
  • Innovative, customer focus, leadership and interpersonal skills.
