Entrepreneurship is all about the business and what impact they have in the society and solving global social issues. We have shared many success journeys of entrepreneurs in Kenya who have the ability to run successful ventures and make an economic impact.
Today I focus on the outstanding women entrepreneurs in Kenya who have struggled to break out of their comfort zone, and sustained their market lead in a male dominated society of entrepreneur, to become household names in the society. But sheer hard work and dedication has elevated them to their current status.
They are the women tycoons of this economic industry who have created employment in the country, and have by far gone ahead and created a consumer base for people, giving the country a different perspective towards investing.
Here is the list of the phenomenon women
1. Tabitha karanja- CEO Keroche Breweries
She made an entrance in the beer industry which is dominated by big multinational companies and has done a fantastic job in marketing and eventually penetrating into the Kenyan Market.
She stands out as a woman who is focused and ambitious with the lone battle with enormous multinationals in the fortified liquor industry, to put the Keroche Brand on the global stand.
She holds an academic qualification in Business Administration. She was given the 2010 Moran o business spear (MBS) by the president for her achievements. She is also a board member of Kenya Association of Manufacturers, (KAM)
She was a model and is an entrepreneur and a mother. She has made it tall with her adopt light initiative. She is one of the successful women who have risen beyond the limits of the society.
Esther Passaris, Business Woman
She started her career in the hotel Industry at Nyali Beach Hotel, where she rose to the position of sales and marketing manager. She later moved to Nairobi and worked in sales for two companies before venturing into self-employment and starting her companies.
She has also tried to venture into Nairobi politics as Women County Representative though she lost to Racheal Shebesh.
3. Gina Din Kariuki- CEO Gina Din Group
The PR Guru has built her firm into one of the leading companies in the industry in the East African region, having scooped the best PR Firm award in Kenya. She was recently named among the top 100 most influential Africans. Gina Din has also played an active philanthropic role, serving in various capacities including goodwill ambassador of Kenya Red Cross Goodwill society of Kenya.
4. Njeri Rionge – Co – Founder Wananchi Online
She has been featured in Forbes under African’s most successful women entrepreneur list. She is the Co- founder of the internet service provider Wanainchi Online that has made a mark in the Serial entrepreneurs. It has attracted a lot of investors in the market with the immense growth.
She is also a founder of business lounge, Kenyan’s leading start up incubator, ignite life style, a health consultancy, ignite consulting, a business consulting firm. And to add more, she is a motivational speaker in Africa Europe and north America.
5. Joyce –Ann Wainiana
This is the managing director of Citibank Zambia. She is among the women who are spearheading business in Kenya as she is a board member of the Riara group of schools and other commercial institutions.
She heads the business Citibank franchise in Zambia. She stands out in the world of communication in the network which is over more than 100 countries. She got the award for the manager of the prestigious company of the year awards 2006.
6. Eva Muraya – Founder and CEO of the Brand Strategy Design
Her company has led to the overall success and even admiration. She started off with the Color creations Africa limited merchandise. She is a recipient of the Premier Goldman sachs Global Leaders Award.
She is an advocate of the women economic empowerment in Kenya and also serves as a board member in various course education holdings.
She holds degree from the United States International University (USIU) in Bachelor of journalism and marketing.
